Sovereign Grace Music has two albums geared towards teaching kids sound biblical doctrine in a way that is easily understood.
Listen Up! Cover Art by Sovereign Grace Kids
As Christians, we have a responsibility to disciple our children from a young age, teaching them the truth of Scripture. There are various ways we can accomplish this from sharing the stories of biblical characters, memorizing Scripture, working through a catechism, and even by listening to music.
With the release of Listen Up!, and the previous The Ology, Sovereign Grace Music offers a way for parents to combine these various approaches to discipleship in their homes and on the road.
The Ology, aims at teaching children sound biblical theology in language that younger children can understand and adults can appreciate.
WOW focuses our attention on the transcendence and immanence of God. We worship a God who has always existed, who has created the earth, sky, and dinosaurs, yet a God who is gracious enough to restore us to a personal relationship with him.
Totally God and Totally Man sings about Jesus who, "walked upon the ocean blue, but his feet got tired and dirty too." Lyrics that revolve around the Hyper-static union of Jesus remind us that Jesus was both fully human and fully divine, that we have a God who can empathize with our experiences.
Brick after Brick is a song about God's church and his kingdom. It reminds us that God has formed in believers a new dwelling place, a building built without human hands that can endure because our hope in Christ is a firm foundation.
Listen Up!, sets 13 parables of Jesus to music. The lyrics help us to remember the messages in the simple stories that Jesus told his followers in order to communicate a more complex idea.
The title track deals with the parable of the sower, reminding us that our hearts are like soil, with other things competing to take root within us. We rely on the Holy Spirit and the gospel to mature and grow into someone beautiful, someone that bears good fruit.
Sand Pile Blues is a fun recollection of the wise and foolish men who built their houses on different foundations. It reminds us that the foolish man didn't dig deep enough, his foundation was shifting and couldn't support him when the winds and rains began to come.
Lost is Found reminds us of three different stories that Jesus shared about a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost (prodigal) son. The theme is clear, when what was lost becomes found it is time to celebrate the love and faithfulness of our king.
Both albums communicate through catchy lyrics in a variety of styles that younger children will love, but Listen Up! goes a step further with an available classroom curriculum or family devotional that contains Scripture readings, fun activities, and discussion questions. Both albums are available on iTunes while the written material is available through New Growth Press and Amazon.
